Denis J. Gaubert, III
I was born in 1955 at Fort Riley, Kansas, while my father, a U.S. Army officer, was assigned to that post. My parents were natives of Thibodaux, Louisiana, where I grew up and have resided for most of my life. Like many local residents, I am a descendant of exiled French Acadians who settled in Lafourche Parish in the 18th century and, like them, take pride in the unique character and culture of this area.
I am the product of U.S. armed forces schools and the public school system of Louisiana. After graduating first in my class in 1973 from Thibodaux High School, I attended Nicholls State University in Thibodaux with a full four-year academic scholarship. I graduated summa cum laude in 1976 after three years, thereby allowing another student the financial benefit of a year's scholarship. Although accepted and offered scholarships at other law schools, I chose to attend Louisiana State University Law Center, graduating in May 1979. After passing the Louisiana state bar examination administered in July, I was admitted to practice law in Louisiana on October 5, 1979.

Over the years, I have acquired considerable experience in civil practice areas, including experience in personal injury claims, insurance defense, insurance coverage disputes, medical and chiropractic malpractice, workers' compensation claims, divorce and domestic disputes, zoning and subdivision restriction disputes, civil appeals and appellate writ applications, construction law, and contractual matters. In addition to personally handling the trials of numerous civil cases before both judges and juries, I have participated in the successful mediation of civil disputes. In the course of my later work as an attorney for the First Circuit Court of Appeals, I assisted in the research, drafting, and publication of literally hundreds of appellate decisions in the above and other areas of law, in many cases involving complicated and unusual facts and unique, unprecedented issues of law.
